Royal Armouries MS I.33 - “Walpurgis Fechtbuch.” She appears only in four illustrations, but is a distinguishing feature of the text. No other known fencing treatise between the 14th and the late 19th centuries ever depicts or discusses female combatants actually using swords. Walpurgis is depicted for all intents and purposes as an equal to the scholar, the priest’s male student in the manuscript, and she seems fully incorporated and versed in the sword-and-buckler combat system that MS I.33 preserves for us.

See, hear, and read the words of Sascha, fearsome Dragon King of the Middle Kingdom, and Kemma, Joyous and Sage Queen of the Dragon Throne.
In all the armies in history, there have been many warriors who have fought and led from within the ranks, rising to positions of great honor. A warrior has many virtues, such as consistent skill at arms, leadership on the field, and willingness to accept challenges - like being part of the Pennsic Unbelted Champions Team. Therefore do we herewith recognize Tristan von Rottweil as a Companion of the Order of Red Company.
Done by our hands this 25th day of October, Anno Societatis 60, at our Grand Day of Tournaments.
