Inspired by: Early 11th C (reign of King Knut) Ringer-like Dragon on a Viking Tombstone found during construction at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. England. The piece is held by the Museum of London.

Youth Award of the Baton (award for Youth martial activities) for archery.

While this drawing by Pierre Denys de Montfort was engraved by Etienne Claude Voysard in 1801, I couldn't resist. The youth receiving the award goes by the name "The Kraken."

The border is based on one from the Juliana Anicia Codex (Vienna Dioscurides) 

The text is styled after a letter of  recommendation written in Latin. "Allow me, sir, to commend to your notice …on, a slave of our lord the emperor, a member of my household and dear to me. He is most deserving of advancement and of your favour, and I do not disguise that any service you can render him in his career will be most welcome to me. Farewell (Address on the verso)

Cynnabar Baronial Award Established by Barons Olafr and Malachy

at Cynnabar's Fall Revel - Sept A.S. 58 (2023)

to recognize entry level skill and enthusiasm for the Arts & Sciences 

in honor and remembrance of Lord Lambert Beckford.

Scroll: Pyrography on a Teak cheesboard. Gouache and 23K shell gold used for award badge. Decorated side sealed with a matte polyurethane. The entire board was then finished with a food-safe  beeswax and oil conditioning finish.

Inspiration: Medieval woodcut showing many uses for milk and cream. The center fromager is washing and straining curd to make cheese and large wheels of cheese age on shelves. Schweizer Chronik, by J Stumpf, 1548.
